ETH Accra in collaboration with Ethereum Foundation and Bankless Africa recently hosted a 3-day in-person hackathon aimed at educating developers and builders.
The hackathon brought together the Ethereum community of developers in Ghana to compete and build innovative projects using the Ethereum blockchain and connecting the blockchain technology to real use cases.
The 3-day hackathon encouraged the creation of new applications that will help address local problems in West Africa and advance the Ethereum community in the region.
According to the organizers, the hackathon was “Open Track”, with no “predefined” themes, however, the developed projects were related to the Ethereum ecosystem.
During the hackathon, Enoch Mbaebie, Filecoin Orbit Community Lead held a workshop on “Understanding the Filecoin Ethereum Virtual Machine(FEVM)”.
Enoch went memory lane as he discussed the FVM roadmap from its first deployment on mainnet in 2002 as “M0” through to its current further protocol improvements for enhanced programming as “M3+”
As explained by Enoch, Filecoin EVM on Mainnet allows Filecoin to run applications and programs built for Ethereum, which opens up new possibilities for Filecoin’s capabilities.
Filecoin’s verifiable storage and crypto economy are powered by implicit smart contracts as this helps to handle its storage and financial systems.
Smart contracts automatically execute tasks without explicit instructions as they make sure everything runs smoothly on the Filecoin platform.
He went further by explaining the Filecoin Solidity libraries which are sets of tools and resources that help developers work with Filecoin using a programming language called Solidity.
These libraries make it easier for programmers to create applications and smart contracts on the Filecoin network.
The FEVM has enabled developers to interact with the Filecoin protocol. With the “Hyperspace testnet”, developers can work with the Filecoin Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) as they can test and experiment with their applications and smart contracts before deploying them on the real Filecoin network.
The hackathon was rounded up with judges reviewing the participants based on their creativity, integration, implementation, and documentation with a total prize of USD 10000 up for grabs.
Builders are welcome to scale up their solution on the Ethereum FVM. Visit here to be a beneficiary of this opportunity.
