Filecoin Orbit Community recently hosted its first Meetup in South East Nigeria tagged “FIL Anambra”, with the theme, “IPFS/Filecoin – A Pacesetter for the Web3 Development”, at Enem Hall, Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State.
The FIL Anambra meetup saw a convergence of blockchain experts and enthusiasts gathered to discuss and learn about various blockchain ecosystem subjects, including Introduction to IPFS/Filecoin, and Web3 Opportunities.
Making the introductory speech, Chukwuemeka Enoch Mbaebie, Convener of the Filecoin Orbit Community Nigeria under the auspices of Protocol Labs mentioned that one of the aims of the meetup is to amplify Protocol Labs innovation and with the Filecoin Orbit Community already present in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, Chukwuemeka urged the audience to sign up in becoming a part of the ecosystem.
Following its meetup in Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt, Uyo, Kaduna and now in Anambra, Chukwuemeka stated that the Filecoin Orbit Community would extend its reach to other South Eastern states.
Faith Roberts, Community Manager, FIL Kaduna Public Relations, ETH Nigeria gave an introduction to blockchain technology while emphasizing how the technology has brought about decentralization while ensuring the privacy of users.
Ogunsakin Tope, Technical Writer, Ethereum Nigeria, continued in a similar manner, as he restated the importance of data privacy and how blockchain has been deployed to solve that challenge. He spoke on how Filecoin is enhancing decentralized storage.
Speaking on behalf of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Harrison Onuora, Executive Assistant to the Anambra State Governor on Digital Transformation expressed his delight at the meetup and restated the Anambra State government’s passion for technology.
“It is the Governor’s passion to make tech thrive in the state and at the ICT Agency, we are championing this message so that we realize it during this administration of Governor Soludo and one of the things we do is to engage the IT ecosystem when we recently held the Anambra Tech Revamp”
Dominic Akpan, Founder/CEO, Digi Labs discussed the “Orbit Database (DB)”, according to him, DB is one of the tools useful for blockchain developers to manage and store data. DB is a distributed p2p database for decentralization deployed on IPFS.
According to Dominic, DB can be used for dApps, blockchain and local web applications.
Ikeogu Franklin, Software/Blockchain Developer, Digi Labs discussed IPFS (InterPlanetary File Storage), giving a brief meaning of the concept and its merits including Non-hierarchical, decentralized, Content addressing, and verifiable.
Also speaking at the meetup, Elvolution, Full Stack Blockchain Developer & Crypto Enthusiast discussed the “Prospective and Tendencies of Project Management”.
He emphasized how blockchain technology can help people start their own projects while bearing in mind the following, “Why build a project?”, Will the project be successful?”, What makes my project interesting?’, “Do I have the funds?”
Rounding up the meetup, the Convener, Chukwuemeka spoke about Filecoin in relation to IPFS. According to him, this innovation will make the web upgradable, resilient, immutable and more open.
He added that Filecoin is compatible with IPFS and any Web3 application because it is verifiable, cryptographic and decentralized.
